What is the difference between practice management software and billing software?
Billing software produces invoices and submits claims. Practice management software includes billing but also runs the diary, the clinical record and patient communication off one patient record, so the note, the code, the invoice and the claim never have to be retyped.

Billing software starts at the invoice. It needs the patient, the code and the amount, and it produces a claim and a statement. Anything before that — the appointment, the consultation, the note — lives somewhere else.
Practice management software starts at the patient. The same record carries the appointment, the clinical note with its codes, the invoice, the claim and the communication history.
The practical difference is double entry. With billing software beside a separate diary and notes system, someone re-enters patient details, codes and amounts, and errors show up as rejected claims. In HeroMed the AI Scribe's note, the ICD-10 assignment, the invoice and the real-time medical scheme claim all run off the same patient record.
Billing-only software is a reasonable fit when you are keeping a clinical system you like. Otherwise it usually costs more in admin than it saves in licence fees.
